Enhance, Reduce or Reconstruct Your Curves
Breast Surgery Ashburn, Leesburg
At his premier cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. Timothy Mountcastle places particular focus on breast surgery, providing women with exceptional results and beautiful contours. Women seeking a fuller bust may benefit from breast augmentation, while breast reduction surgery frees women from the emotional and physical discomfort of disproportionately large breasts. For women who have undergone a mastectomy, breast reconstruction can help restore the breasts to their original size and shape. If you are interested in re-contouring your bust with breast surgery, contact Dr. Mountcastle Leesburg, Ashburn or Reston to schedule a personal consultation.
Breast Augmentation Surgery
An extremely popular cosmetic procedure, breast augmentation involves the placement of saline or silicone implants under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue in order to create a fuller, shapelier chest. Breast implants are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and textures, each with their own unique benefits. Although some patients consider silicone to feel more natural, saline implants may result in smaller incision scars because they can be inserted empty before being enlarged to their desired volume.
The incisions for the procedure—made in the underarm, around the areola, or in the inframammary crease at the base of the breast—are designed to be effectively concealed beneath your underwear and bathing suits. The implants will be inserted under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue, after which the incision sites will be closed with sutures. The results of your breast augmentation surgery will be immediately visible, and you will realize the full benefits of your enhanced contours as post-procedural swelling decreases. Fat grafting is another technique being used with more frequency in the plastic surgery community and by Dr. Mountcastle. Specialized techniques that use patients’ own body fat offers patients more options than ever when it comes to enhancing their breasts.
Breast Reduction Surgery
Women with disproportionately large breasts may feel self conscious about their chests, as well as experience chronic pain in the form of neck and back aches. Fortunately, breast reduction surgery removes excess tissue and reshapes the breasts for a firmer, more proportionate bust.
During breast reduction surgery, excess breast tissue is removed, and remaining tissue is repositioned and tightened to provide smaller, more flattering contours. Depending on the amount of breast tissue that requires removal, liposuction may be performed in conjunction with breast surgery. Because they often appear stretched, the nipples and areola will likely be reduced in size and shifted to a higher position. In some cases, they can be left intact. Contrary to what most patients think, a large percentage of breast reductions can be covered by insurance.
Breast Lift Surgery
Over time, the skin loses some of its natural elasticity. This, combined with the effects of pregnancy, fluctuations in weight, and simple gravity, can cause the breasts to begin to sag and droop. For many women, this change in the appearance of their breasts represents their first true sign of aging, a sign that can fortunately be corrected through a form of cosmetic breast surgery known commonly as the breast lift.
Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is performed to improve the shape and firmness of the breasts, giving them a more youthful profile. During breast lift, Dr. Mountcastle removes excess skin and fat from the breasts through discreet incisions, the location of which is determined during the pre-surgery consultation. Once the excess tissue has been removed, the nipples and areolas are repositioned to a more flattering position on the breasts, and, if necessary, the areolas are reduced in size. After a period of healing, patients emerge with natural-looking breasts that make them look trimmer, healthier, and generally younger and more vital.
While many patients elect to undergo breast lift surgery on its own, some choose to combine the procedure with breast augmentation as part of a more comprehensive body contouring plan. By placing breast implants during breast lift surgery, Dr. Mountcastle is able to rejuvenate and enhance the breasts simultaneously. The course of treatment best suited to your case will depend on your unique needs and personal aesthetic goals, which you will have the opportunity to discuss in detail during a confidential consultation at our practice.
Male Breast Reduction
Men with excessive breast tissue, a condition known as gynecomastia, may benefit from breast surgery performed at the Ashburn, Leesburg, or Reston practice of Dr. Mountcastle. Using an incision at the bottom of the areola or under the arm, Dr. Mountcastle will remove excess glandular tissue and skin to create firmer, more masculine chest contours.
Depending on the amount of excess fat that requires removal, Dr. Mountcastle may supplement male breast reduction surgery with SmartLipo™ laser liposuction, eliminating excess fat with minimal discomfort and zero post-procedural downtime.
Breast Reconstruction Surgery
By reconstructing breasts that have been lost to a mastectomy, lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, breast surgery provides a source of hope for women surviving cancer. Dr. Mountcastle performs breast reconstructions using the skin expander, fat grafting or DIEP flap technique, and will work with you to determine which method will best accomplish your reconstructive and aesthetic goals.
If breast reconstruction is performed using the skin expander technique, a tissue expander is placed under the skin, and then stretched through a series of weekly injection of saline solution. The breasts become larger with each addition of saline, reaching their desired size in a matter of months. While results take time to achieve, many women opt for the skin expander technique because it reconstructs breasts without significant downtime.
An alternative to the skin expander method is the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap procedure which is a newer version of a tram flap. Dr. Mountcastle is one of a select few reconstructive surgeons in the greater Washington D.C. area capable of performing this advanced technique. Using skin and fat from the patient’s own abdominal region, Dr. Mountcastle reconstructs breasts for notably natural results.
